M. Brian Fennerty, MD, Editor-in-Chief

M. Brian Fennerty, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Fennerty is a past member and current consultant of the FDA Advisory Panel on Gastrointestinal and Urological Devices, as well as past Chair of the Imaging and Advanced Technology Section of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the Research Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). He currently is Secretary and incoming President-Elect of the ASGE and is a member of the Gastroenterology Committee for the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Fennerty was Founding Editor of Journal Watch Gastroenterology in 2000 and has served as its Editor-in-Chief ever since.

David J. Bjorkman, MD, MSPH (HSA), SM (Epid.), Deputy Editor

David J. Bjorkman, MD, MSPH (HSA), SM (Epid.), is the Dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine and Executive Medical Director of the University of Utah Medical Group. He has been an investigator on numerous outcome trials of endoscopic therapy, peptic-ulcer disease, and the gastrointestinal safety of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). He has special interest in clinical outcomes of endoscopic procedures, GI complications associated with NSAID use, clinical epidemiology, clinical-trial design, applications of evidence-based medicine, and economic effects of GI disorders. Dr. Bjorkman served on the Governing Board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) from 1999 through 2007 and is a Past President. He has been reviewing research on the stomach for Journal Watch Gastroenterology since the publication's launch in 2000 and is its Deputy Editor.

David A. Johnson, MD, Associate Editor

David A. Johnson, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Chief of Gastroenterology at the Eastern Virginia School of Medicine in Norfolk. He has special interest in endoscopic and pharmacologic therapies for GERD. He has authored more than 250 publications and is co-editor of the American College of Physicians textbook Dyspepsia. He serves on several national and state society committees and is the current President of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Johnson has been reviewing research on the esophagus for Journal Watch Gastroenterology since the publication's launch in 2000.

Douglas K. Rex, MD, Associate Editor

Douglas K. Rex, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Director of Endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He has received several Outstanding Teacher Awards and the Department of Medicine's Excellence in Teaching Award. His research interests focus on colorectal disease, colorectal cancer screening, and colonoscopy technique. He coauthored the 2000 colorectal cancer screening recommendations of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and is a past President of the ACG. He was the Chair of the U.S. Multisociety Task Force on Colorectal Cancer from 1999 through 2006. Dr. Rex has been reviewing research on the colon for Journal Watch Gastroenterology since the publication's launch in 2000.

Stuart Sherman, MD, Associate Editor

Stuart Sherman, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Radiology, Director of ERCP, and Clinical Director of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He is a member of the Governing Board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). His research interests include the application of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and sphincter of Oddi manometry to diseases of the pancreas and biliary tree, methods to lower ERCP-related complications, and development of ERCP techniques and technologies. He has authored or coauthored more than 250 publications and was a speaker at the NIH State of the Science Conference on ERCP. Dr. Sherman has been reviewing research on the pancreas and biliary tree for Journal Watch Gastroenterology since the publication's launch in 2000.

Atif Zaman, MD, MPH, Associate Editor

Atif Zaman, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, where he is also the Director of Clinical Hepatology and co-Medical Director of Liver Transplant. Dr. Zaman's research includes many projects in hepatology. He is the recipient of the WAFMR Outstanding Investigator Award. Dr. Zaman is a member of several national societies: the American Gastroenterology Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He has presented more than 25 lectures and authored more than 50 manuscripts, review articles, and abstracts. Dr. Zaman has been reviewing hepatology literature for Journal Watch Gastroenterology since 2004.
